Great Scott! Teenager Marty McFly has accidentally time-travelled from the 1980s to the 1950s in this hilarious sci-fi adventure. He must figure out how to get his parents together, save his family’s future – and also get back to his own time, before it’s too late.
Originally a smash-hit comedy movie starring Michael J Fox as Marty and Christopher Lloyd as his eccentric scientist friend, Emmett “Doc” Brown, Back to the Future became a West End sensation in 2021, wowing audiences and winning the Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
The show features beloved songs from the film, such as The Power of Love and Johnny B Goode, plus an original rocking score. The production also boasts incredible special effects as Marty journeys back in time in that iconic DeLorean – you might even see a car fly… It’s 1.21 gigawatts of family fun.
You can find seats for Back to the Future: The Musical on Telegraph Tickets. Check the site for the latest prices.
Olly Dobson and Roger Bart were the first pair to take on those legendary roles played in the film by Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. We’ve since seen plenty more brilliant Marty and Doc Brown musical stars both in the West End and on Broadway.
Currently leading the London cast is Ben Joyce as Marty. The talented rising star made his West End debut playing Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. He’s joined by Cory English (Young Frankenstein) as Doc Brown, Sarah Goggin (Sister Act) as Lorraine, Oliver Nicholas (London Kills) as George, and Jay Perry (Hamilton) as Goldie Wilson.
Back to the Future was co-created by the movie’s director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Bob Gale, and it’s directed by John Rando (Tony-nominated for On the Town). The new songs are by the Oscar-nominated Hollywood composer Alan Silvestri and Grammy-winning songwriter Glen Ballard, who worked on Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

“The way the steam-spouting DeLorean takes off over the stalls at the end, achieving a kind of 3D Hollywood magic, is enough to have you running to the gift stand, looking to buy a flux capacitor.” Read the full Telegraph review.
Back to the Future: The Musical is currently booking in the West End until December 2024. That means there’s still plenty of time to catch this exciting adventure, with its mix of sci-fi thrills, joyful comedy, family drama, friendship, romance, and, of course, a toe-tapping pop-rock soundtrack.
Absolutely! The Telegraph gave it the full five stars, declaring it a “feelgood triumph”. It’s a great show for a mixed group, since there’s something here for everyone – including cutting-edge special effects that make you feel like you’re part of an action movie. You’ll enjoy revisiting the story in a new form if you loved the 80s movie, and it’s also a fantastic watch if you’re coming to it fresh.
The producers haven’t announced any plans to tour, but it could happen in future given the show’s popularity. The only challenge would be re-creating all those incredible special effects in different theatres. However, you’ve still got plenty of time to come to London and book tickets for Back to the Future: The Musical in the West End.
